Bikes with Disc Brakes: Allowed or Not?

Hi, all. I am the Sask Triathlon Association (STAC) Director of Officials. Over the last few months there has been a lot of discussion and concern about whether disk brakes on bikes would be allowed in triathlon competitions. This article is meant to inform all participants that are considering getting – or have already obtained – bikes with disk brakes (instead of caliper brakes) on a bike, and what that may mean for taking part in triathlons or duathlons that are within Saskatchewan and outside of the province.  Read more....

2016 Race Schedule Change

2016 Race Schedule Change

We are sorry to announce the See Jane Tri and See Dick Tri is taking a hiatus in 2016.  The booking of pool and park space has become increasingly complex with the tentativeness of outdoor pool operations in June and many competing activities in Wascana Park, along with competition from other triathlons in Western Canada.

The See Jane Tri organizers fought hard in 2014 and 2015 to keep this race operating, with the pool opening for the season on the morning of the race.  On behalf of all our members and the thousands of past See Jane Tri participants, we thank Laura Englund for 10 years as the See Jane Tri race director.  We look forward to working with her and her team on 2017 race.

We love that so many of our members experienced their first triathlon at the See Jane Tri or See Dick Tri.  Lots have gone on to participate for many years as age group athletes, qualify for world championships, and complete iron distances.  We hope that you will encourage your friends and family to participate in our other races, including the Campbell Haliburton Brent Gibson Memorial Ice Breaker on May 29, which is also a pool swim and offers a try-a-tri distance.

Races are now planned for the following dates:

Brent Gibson Memorial Ice Breaker at U of R - May 29
Women's Only Sprint Triathlon at Echo Lake - June 19
RMC Sprint and Olympic Triathlon at Echo Lake - July 10

You can support our local events in many ways.  All of our events need more support.  We need people to sign up early so we know the race will have enough participants to run.  We need new athletes and we also need veteran athletes to sign up again.  We need lots and lots of race weekend volunteers to set up, encourage athletes, calm nerves, keep people safe, officiate the course, high five at the finish line, feed people, and clean up after.  We need families to line the courses and cheer for athletes at the beginning, middle and end. These contributions make the hundreds of hours of logistics planning and execution a much lighter burden for our volunteer race directors and organizers.

Thank you for supporting us this far and we hope to see lots of new and familiar faces this upcoming season.
