Splash & Sprint Clinic

Join RMC Fundamentals Coach Sean Hooper for a special aquathlon clinic aimed at kids aged 7-12!  This clinic will teach the basics of swimming in shallow lake water, transitioning from swimming to running, and run drills to prepare for the Western Cycle Echo Lake Multisport Festival on July 14, 2019.

This clinic is offered by the Regina Multisport Club for our youth members.  We are always accepting new members -- for only $5!  For insurance purposes, an annual Triathlon Saskatchewan (including Triathlon Canada auto enrollment) is also required.  This membership costs $16 and is required to participate in the free Splash & Sprint event on July 14.  (Total investment today if you have no memberships = $26 comprised of $5 course fee, $5 RMC membership, $16 TriSask/CanTri membership).  If you don't have these memberships yet, they will be added to your registration at check out.

Details:

  • Echo Valley Provincial Park Beach.  A Provincial Park Pass (day pass or otherwise) is required to park at the beach lot.

  • Saturday July 6th (backup day Sunday July 7th if bad weather)

  • We plan to swim on Echo Lake side of beach, however, if wind direction results in large waves at Echo and calm water on Pasqua, we will switch and participants will be emailed

  • Noon check in, start by 12:15PM wrap up by 2PM

  • Target instructional age 7-12 (older and younger children will be allowed, however instruction will be focused to general abilities of the 7-12 age range)

  • Coached by Sean Hooper, RMC Fundamentals Coach and Sask Triathlon Coach of the Year 2018

  • Course will focus on shallow water swim skills such as sighting, turns, and dolphin dives; transition practice; beach, grass and path running

Safety:

  • There are no lifeguards at the beach, therefore we are asking that all athletes attending have a parent/guardian on the beach watching while the clinic is being held.

  • While the course is in progress all athletes must be listening and trying their best.   We understand that the beach is exciting, the water is cold, and swimming can be hard!  To ensure we are able to safely supervise the clinic, kids who lose interest, or need a break or a pep talk will be sent to see their parent/guardian on the beach until they are ready to return.

  • All participants will be given a matching fluorescent swim cap and it must be worn while in the water.

Regina Multisport Youth Summer Camp

Join us at our second Regina Multisport Youth Summer Camp July 8 to 12!  This week-long half-day camp for youth ages 7-12 will be focused on fun summer activities - which coincidentally are swimming, biking, and running around!  Anchored in Wascana Park, participants will swim at Wascana Pool, bike run and play games in the park, and have a chance to run at the Douglas Park track.  We have also booked a space at the South Leisure Centre in case of bad weather.  On Friday, we will wrap up with a morning at Level 10 Fitness rock climbing and completing an obstacle course.

Our Youth Camp will be overseen by RMC Fundamentals Coach Sean Hooper.  Sean has been coaching youth triathletes for almost a decade and was named the Saskatchewan Triathlon Coach of the Year in 2018.  He also recently received his Bachelor of Education degree and is employed as a substitute teacher. Sean is also a very talented triathlete, most recently qualifying and training to participate in the ITU World Age Group Championship in Luasanne Switzerland.  Several members of our RMC Junior Team will also drop in to help out with activities.

The timing of this camp will  prepare youth to participate in the Echo Lake Multisport Festival Aquathlon on July 14 (swim/run).  Participation in the Echo Lake event is encouraged but not required.

All participants must have Triathlon Saskatchewan and RMC memberships in order to participate. If you do not already have these memberships, you will be prompted to buy the during registration.  These registrations will also allow entry into the Echo Lake Splash & Sprint, as well as the open water camp being held on July 6.

Details:

  • Dates: July 8 to 12, 2019

  • Times: 8:30 am to 12:00pm

  • Drop off and pick up times are between 7:50am-8:20am and 12:00pm and 12:30pm

  • Location: Various locations in Wascana Park, Level 10 Fitness Regina and South Leisure Centre

  • Ages: 7-12

  • Capacity: 15 participants

  • Other:

    • Our swim time will be at Wascana Pool which only allows full pool length rental in the morning (lanes run from shallow end to deep end).  Swim time will be focused on games and skill development, not lap swimming.  Because the water is deep, youth who are not confident swimmers must bring a well-fitting life jacket.

    • Participants will travel around Wascana Park using quiet roads and bike paths.  Youth must have a bike that is in good condition so that the group can move locations (for example, ride from Wascana Pool to Douglas Park Track).

    • Drop off and pick up locations will vary.  The schedule will be emailed to parents with reminders.

    • Participants will bring their own snacks and water bottles.  Youth may eat a bagged lunch while waiting to be picked up between noon and 12:30pm.

  • We require a minimum of 10 participants to go forward with this camp (last year we sold out at 15 participants).  If we fail to register 10 youth by end of day June 28, we will immediately notify families of the cancellation and refund participant fees.  We will also let you know as soon as we meet our threshold.  Thank you for your understanding and flexibility.
