Kids of Steel Icebreaker Triathlon

Here’s a summary of the basic information:

  • The Kids of Steel Icebreaker Triathlon is hosted by Regina

Multisport Club and is a non-profit event.

  • Ages 5 (and under) through 15 are welcome to participate –

    novice or experienced.

  • No special equipment is needed; swimsuit, swim cap

(supplied), swim goggles (optional), shoes, shirt, shorts, running shoes, water bottle, bike (any kind), and helmet – and being so excited you can barely stand still! A flutter board or swim floatation jacket is allowed and bike training wheels are fine.

  • It is held at the University of Regina in the afternoon (the morning of the race will be the adult triathlon at the same location – the Brent Gibson Memorial Icebreaker triathlon).

  • Pre-registration is online and is required to participate – with a cut off date midweek of the race week or when the maximum number of participants is reached. An online registration fee will apply.

  • The race agenda is check-in starting at 12:00, pre-race briefing at 12:45, first wave start at 1:30, the last finisher by 4:30, and the draw prizes and handouts finished before 5.

  • A pre-race walkthrough (and equipment check – see point below) is offered before the race weekend. Information on this is sent out to all registered participant. It is strongly recommended this be attended to ease the ‘unknown’ factor for the participant – and for the parent!

  • An ‘equipment check’ is strongly recommended prior to the race day to ensure the bike and helmet meets the safety guidelines and to allow an efficient entry into the transition are the day of the race (for both the participant and the whole race in general). Information about where to get this done will be sent out to the registrants.

  • More specific information about the various components of the race can be found in the course overview page on the site.

The agenda for the day’s event is roughly as follows:

  • 12:00 to 12:45 Check-in, Transition Setup

  • 12:45 to 1:15 Pre-race Briefing (all hands)

  • 1:15 to 1:30 Volunteer Meetings

  • 1:45 Race Start (Swim) Oldest to Youngest

  • 4:30 Expected Last Finisher

  • 4:30 to 5:00 Draw Prizes, Results, Teardown
